Illustrated from photographs, eight plates, four to each title. Text printed within thin green rule; elaborate colored initial letters. Johnson was the co-founder of Victor Talking Machine Company and the… leading producer of American phonographs for a time. Bruns J-31: "Very limited edition, quality not known." Callahan "Partial Tarpon Bibliography," p. xiii: "Certainly the most attractive tarpon book, both in typography and design, and a particularly fine binding . a rare and handsome book." Heller 181 (for the first edition of "Buck Fever"): "California deer hunting trip taken by the author in 1908." Not in Phillips. OCLC locates three copies (New York Public, Library of Congress, Miami). Fine green crushed morocco (spine and outer portions of boards sunned to a rich brown), gilt, gilt-stamped decorated morocco pastedowns, marbled endpapers, gilt title, rules, and sporting ornaments between raised bands on spine, t.e.g., others untrimmed, elaborate white, black, and red tarpon onlay, with gilt-stamped line, on upper board, by "The French Binders, Garden City, N.Y.". A little browning in margins of several leaves, else a fine copy. (2825).
