First edition, anthologizing 214 short songs and nursery rhymes collected in the streets of Beijing. Subjects range from animals, family, and food to love, proper social conduct (especially for women), and business. Each is printed in Chinese verse style and in English prose translation. With loosely inserted errata sheet. Original boards, green cloth backstrip, spine lettered in black in Chinese, front cover lettered in black in English. Contemporary presentation inscription from one Sun Bei(?) on front free endpaper. A little shaken, light rubbing at spine ends, faint tidemarks on boards and some leaves, brittleness of paper causing closed tears to front free endpaper and browning throughout: very good.…
