Add to basketEach sheet (28 x 21.6 cm).Starting in April 1968, Ray Johnson distributed mailings that called for ?meetings? of the New York Correspondence School, where people sometimes came together (sometimes not) and during which Ray Johnson would often perform a ?nothing?, part of his performance art practice. Many of his announcements were of fictive or virtual ?meetings? of phantom ?clubs.? On April 5, 1973, Ray Johnson sent a notice to The New York Times announcing the ?death? of the New York Correspondance School. It is signed ?Buddha University? with a bunny head. After this date, Johnson?s mailing activities continued apace under many guises such as Buddha University and Asparagus Club. Here are three variant invitations to one of Johnson?s early Buddha University meetings, held at the Onnasch Galerie on Spring Street, New York, January 19th 1974. Each of the xeroxed sheets reproduces drawings and handwritten texts by Johnson. Three photocopied sheets, folded in original franked envelope.

Condition: Very good plus. First Edition. Original signed pencil drawing from the legendary neo-dada mail artist, honoring one of his favorite artists, noted children's book illustrator Wanda Gag. Johnson incorporated Gag into numerous works (in part he liked the palindromic quality of the name) and he named his own imaginary twin sister, "Wanda Johnson," after Gag. A lovely homage connecting two important artists bound by their sense of childlike playfulness. 5.5'' x 3.5''. Original penciled drawing featuring a central "Gag-ish" decorative element, with "WANDA / GAG / 1893-1946" written below, and signed by Johnson at the right. One edge rough from (presumably) removal from small notebook. A few faint creases and a small stain, not effecting image. Nicely mounted and floated in an archival frame. Signed.

Complete run of the legendary Loujon Press magazine so profusely signed it seems like an avant-garde poetry yearbook with an additional mockup of the last issue and an ALS from Bukowski to the Loujon Press editors. The Outsider was first run out of the Webb's apartment in New Orleans and later at their place in Tuscon. Ornately designed and letterpressed, the installments are themselves audacious art objects produced in small runs. The first volume is signed and inscribed by publisher Gypsy Lou Webb on the front tissue-guard and is additionally signed by Bukowski on the first page and a number of authors at their contributions: Gary Snyder, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Amiri Baraka, Michael McClure, Robert Creeley, Gene Frumkin, John Ashbery, and Diane di Prima. The second volume is also signed by Gypsy Lou plus Anselm Hollo and Gene Frumkin. Volume 3 also signed by Gypsy Lou plus Robert Creeley, Michael McClure, and Anselm Hollo. Vols. 4 and 5 signed by Gypsy Lou plus Anselm Hollo, Gene Frumkin, David Meltzer, and Doug Blazek. The mockup of the last issue includes a hand-written note on the front jacket, likely in the hand of Jon or Lou Webb, discussing the progress of the issue and mentioning delays due to flooding and is signed by Gypsy Lou, Anselm Hollo, and Gene Frumkin. All volumes on the lower end of very good or better, with edgewear and toning to the early volumes and some foxing on the last volume, previous owner signatures on some of the volumes. Bukowski letter is signed, original mailing envelope with his LA address present as is a handwritten letter of provenance (only for the letter) from a previous seller. Letter is near fine. A dream Outsider lot, likely without equal.

Letter. Condition: Fine. Locust Valley, New York. 1983. Envelope, handwritten letter with drawing, and 4 pages of Xerox photocopied mail art from New YorkÂ's seminal Neo-Dadaist Ray Johnson (1927-1995). Heralded as Â"New YorkÂ's most famous unknown artistÂ" and a pioneer in mail art, Johnson founded the New York Correspondence School (NYCS) in the 1962 and it continued in various iterations until the late 80s. At its peak the school grew to a global network of hundreds of artistsÂ' correspondence. The envelope (dated June 24, 1983) is addressed to fellow artist and 1978 Guggenheim fellow Edwin J. Gunn c/o W.W. Norton Publishing Company, NY. The letter, handwritten in brown pencil, thanks Gunn for his previous correspondence and welcomes him to the NYCS. At the bottom of the letter Johnson has drawn a familiar doodle in black marker. On the letterÂ's verso is the first photocopied page featuring the NYCS Â"David Letterman Fan Club MeetingÂ" held in Greenvale, NY 1983. The second page features Â"Rauschenberg at the Opening 1983.Â" Johnson and Rauschenberg were close colleagues- corresponding by mail and crossing paths regularly as fixtures of NYÂ's downtown arts scene in the 50s and 60s. The third page features artist and author Â"Dear Judith Van Wagner.Â" The fourth page is an invitation to the 1983 Â"International Mail Art ExhibitÂ" taking place in Pittsburgh, PA.

First Edition. Quarto (28cm); mimeographed sheets (rectos), brad-bound into jade green printed wrappers; [ii],21pp. Boldly signed by Bradbury on the title leaf. Near Fine, with some trivial wear and toning to wrapper extremities. Screenplay for this adaptaion of Bradbury's short story, which first appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in 1956, and collected a decade later in S is for Space. The story is centered around the first manned rocket flight to the moon, relayed with surprising accuracy seven years prior to the Apollo 11 mission. Joseph Anthony Mugnaini (1912-1992), Italian-American illustrator and Bradbury's long-time friend and collaborator, spent two years creating thousands of sketches and more than 300 oil paintings to help flesh out the 18-minute animated short film, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1962. According to a note in L.W. Currey Catalog #71, around 35-40 copies of the script were prepared for Bradbury to distribute. Uncommon, with no copies found in the auction record, and OCLC noting a single holding at the Ransom Center.
