Der bibelkritischen Anmerkungen wegen (der Verfasser war Pietist) war das Buc…h von der Zensur verboten" (Griep/Luber). Eine Falttafel zeigt den Grundriss von Jerusalem, die andere den Calvarienberg und Umgebung. Der bibelgläubige Pietist kämpft "mit scharfen waffen gegen den götzen- u- reliquiendienst" an, und zweifelt insbesondere die Echtheit der Sanctuarien in Jerusalem, vor allem die des Hl. Grabes an. "Er liebt vorzüglich Angriffe auf die Sagen der Mönche, nüchterne Kritik würde man übrigens bei ihm vergeblich suchen. Immerhin kommt man von ihm, dessen entschiedenes Auftreten wirklich einen Impuls gibt, nicht leer weg" (Tobler). "Sein Werk zeigt, daß er ohne Gelehrsamkeit u. etwas leichtfertig war. Was er sah, beschreibt er mit einfacher Redlichkeit, aber er teilt auch vieles nach Hörensagen mit, ohne in die Genauigkeit seiner Berichterstatter Mißtrauen zu setzen" (Robinson). Leicht gebräunt.
