Raúl Anguiano (Guadalajara, 1915 - Mexico City, 2006) was a Mexican painter and printmaker of the second generation of muralists, following Rivera, Orozco and Siqueiros. He studied at the Escuela Libre de Pintura in Guadalajara, moved to Mexico City in 1934, and in 1937 was among the founders of the Taller de Gráfica Popular with Leopoldo Méndez, Pablo O'Higgins and Alfredo Zalce. He executed some fifty murals from La educación socialista (1936) onward, and taught for many years at La Esmeralda and at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. His subjects were rural and indigenous Mexico, popular festivals and religious observance, and in particular the Maya, whom he recorded on the expedition to Bonampak described in Expedición a Bonampak (1959). His best-known painting, La Espina, depicts a seated Lacandon woman removing a thorn from her foot; it sold at Christie's in 2004 for $156,000. | Art, Anguiano, Raul, 1915-2006. Mexico painters.

Idioma publicación: Castellano. Documentación: Juan Pérez de Ayala Fundación Caixa. 83 páxinas, ilustracións, fotografías en blanco e negro e color, 30x21 cm. Edit.
