Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Written by Private Joseph Guyer to Captain R. Laughlin requesting furlough to accompany his sick brother back home. He also asks if some other men can come with him and offers to try and recruit new men while there. He further mentions a bit of Prickly Ash bark to make medicinal tea with for John. He also discusses the war not ending soon due to Lincoln calling for 300,000 new men. The Letter is written on printed stationary, with an illustration on the top right of a U.S. Flag emerging from a globe, lithographically colored and captioned "Our country and our union". Printed stationary was popular during in the early war period, often including patriotic or political slogans and symbols, before it fell out of favor due to rising concerns about cost.
