Mit einigen gestochenen Vignetten im Text, Original-Leder mit umlaufendem roten Farbschnitt, 8° ( 21 x 13,5 cm ). Der Einband ist etwas fleckig, berieben, Ecken und Kanten teils bestoßen, Vorderdeckel mit kleiner Fehlstelle im Bezug, Rückdeckel mit größerer Fehlstelle im Bezug zur Unterkante hin. Der schmale Einbandrücken mit kleiner alter Klebemarke, stärker berieben, gering beschädigt und an den Kapitalen etwas ausgefranst bzw. gering angeplatzt. Innen mit einem alten Besitzvermerk auf dem Vorsatzblatt *Anna Schulte `81* ( wohl 1781 ). Innen ist das Titelblatt zum Unterrrand hin gering beschädigt, Papier teils gebräunt, Seiten durchgehend etwas stockfleckig, teils auch stärker. Einige Seiten sind unbeschnitten, einige Seiten etwas angeknickt. The binding is somewhat stained, rubbed, corners and edges partly bumped, front cover with small loss in the cover, back cover with larger loss in the cover towards the lower edge. The narrow spine with small old adhesive mark, more heavily rubbed, slightly damaged and somewhat frayed or slightly chipped at the capitals. Inside with an old ownership note on the flyleaf *Anna Schulte `81* ( probably 1781 ). Inside, the title page is slightly damaged towards the lower margin, paper partly browned, pages somewhat foxed throughout, partly more so. Some pages are uncut, some pages somewhat creased. An den Diplomaten Franz Joseph Fürst Dietrichstein (1767-1854) über Neuigkeiten, "die ohne dies schon bekannt seyn, welches das Publicum nicht wenig in erstaunen sezt". - Retzer war seit 1782 Hofkonzipist und wurde - nach der Veröffentlichung seines Gedichts "Auf die verstorbene Kaiserinn, Beschützerinn der Wissenschaften" - mit dem Amt des Bücherzensors betraut. 1801 wurde ihm die Zensur historisch-politischer Bücher, 1819 das Zensorenamt vollständig entzogen. Seit 1782 Mitglied und später Meister der Loge "Zur wahren Eintracht", förderte er als Zensor aufklärerisches Schrifttum, war Mitarbeiter der Zeitschrift "Literarische Monate", später des "Wiener Musenalmanachs" und veröffentlichte Gedichte u. a. im "Teutschen Merkur" und im "Deutschen Museum". Auch pflegte Retzer eine umfangreiche Korrespondenz mit Gelehrten und Dichtern, darunter jahrzehntelang mit Friedrich Nicolai, übersetzte aus dem Lateinischen und Französischen und machte sich als Herausgeber deutscher und fremdsprachiger Werke verdient. - Das Respektblatt mit kleinem Ausriß durch Siegelbruch (keine Textberührung).
