Das Buch richtet sich nicht nur an Studenten des Fachs Geographie, sondern stellt, da es für Laien verständlich geschrieben ist, auch ein interessantes Nachschlagewerk dar. Störend ist einzig, dass zahlreiche der abgebildeten Karten auf eher ungewöhnlichen Projektionen basieren. Diese Karten sind nicht sehr übersichtlich, weisen teilweise irritierende Verzerrungen auf und werden dem Anspruch der Autoren, keiner der Kontinente solle eine beherrschende Position einnehmen, nicht wirklich gerecht.
