Original tan thick paper covers with brown lettering front, black rules front and spine, gray lettering spine. 1 of 3000 copies of the first edition (2500 were paperback and 500 were hardcover.this is one of the paperback copies). All first printing copies are now very scarce since this is one of the classic, principal books on mountaineering in the Sierra Nevada. This example has some light soiling to covers, a small greenish smudge over the cover illustration, slight bump to the upper outside corner of the last 72 pages of text and upper rear cover corner (not bad), old owner signed private bookplate on inside of front cover otherwise no previous owner marks or writing on any pages,no foxing, solid binding. . Book measures 236mm tall x 160mm, and has 172 pages + [3], 20 b/w photos, 1 map. A classic of the Sierra Nevada literature, the major account of the author's many first ascents & pioneering climbs in the Sierra Nevada.
