The portfolio provides decorative ideas of artist Jules Hebert-Dys for ceramics, fabric, jewelry, furniture and house decor on forty-eight plates. The beautiful color motifs, with gilt and silver overprinting, depict birds, fish, cows, cranes, flowers, ceramics, wall decorations, umbrellas, jewelry, various fabrics, scarfs, panels, wallpaper, bookbinding, tea sets, an embroidered collar, dishes, etc. The album heralds the movement from the so-called Japonisme (Philippe Burty) to the sentimental glug of past pastiches to Art Nouveau. The plates were printed to "papier du Chine" by the lithographer Charles Gillot and pasted to heavy handmade paper. Includes separate printed leaf listing titles of all plates in six languages, French, German, English, Dutch, Italian, and Spanish. Complete set with some miss- and overprints in the numeration of plates. Portfolio with light wear along edges and inner flaps. Leaf with list of plates with some creasing, small closed tears and very light foxing. Handmade paper with some foxing (margins), prints fine. Quite scarce in the original publisher's case.
