Director Joseph Losey's horrifying Kafkaesque indictment of fascism, wherein a disreputable Parisian art dealer (Alain Delon) in 1942 Paris, under Nazi rule, living luxuriously by buying valuable art for pennies on the dollar from Jews attempting to flee the country, is mistaken for a Jewish man with the same name sought by the police.
