Printed publication by François Adriaen van der Kemp (pseud. Junius Batavus) to Pieter Jan Marcus, former mayor of Leiden. Published in response to the pamphlet written by mr. P.J. Marcus, who, dissatisfied with the course of events in Leiden since 1787, resigned from his position in after having served 31 long years. In the pamphlet Marcus details the many occurrences which compelled him to resign, among which are the decline and subsequent dissolution of the New West India Company and the East India Company on January 1st, 1792; a dispute with pensionary Boers, the defeat of the Army etc.Politics - dispute - Leiden - pseudonym - politics - criticism - printed publication - The Netherlands - Dutch history Bound in speckled paper, 22 x 13.5 cm. Signs of wear: somewhat frayed edges, a bit of foxing and yellowed paper.
