Ink written note at the bottom of the title page, indicating the author's address. An author's note states 'This is a story of a family of merry children and their adventures in their home playground, a Pine Wood, where they meet Red Indians, Pirates, Brownies, eytc.,all of which however, eventually prove to have a natural explanation'. An unstated and undated edition with a price of 1/6 (d). The original was first published in 1943. . Kitty Laverty was born in Lancashire in 1884. She attended art college in Liverpool in the 1920s and taught at various schools throughout the country. She wrote and illustrated many short stories, which were published in various children's magazines and annuals, mainly in the 1930s and 40s. She also wrote and illustrated a number of children's books, mostly with a Native American ('Red Indian') theme.
