Die ersten Siedlungsspuren datieren 6600 Jahre zurück. Vor allem im Südosten wurden Pfahlbauten errichtet, aber offenbar nur für eine kurze Zeit, denn danach ist für 1000 Jahre lang überhaupt keine Besiedlung nachzuweisen. Die Gründe dafür sind derzeit noch nicht geklärt. Im Anschluss an diese Zeit ohne jegliche Besiedlung lässt sich eine weitere, 400 Jahre lang andauernde starke Besiedlung nachweisen, die dann aber für einen Zeitraum von 500 Jahren wieder abrupt abbricht. Eine dritte und letzte Siedlungsepoche ist kurz vor der Bronzezeit nachweisbar, doch 1500 vor Beginn unserer Zeitrechnung war das ganze Gebiet nur noch Sumpf und die Menschen zogen an den Rand."
