De beroemde reis van Albrecht D rer door de Lage Landen in woord en beeld De grote Albrecht D rer (1471-1528) is zonder twijfel een van de bekendste Duitse kunstenaars. Als vaandeldrager van de noordelijke renaissance was D rer tevens een van… de eerste echte Europese kunstenaars: zijn oeuvre bezit een opvallend internationaal karakter en vormt een brug tussen Noord en Zuid. De vele reizen die hij door het vroegmoderne Europa maakte, drukten alle hun stempel op zijn artistieke persoonlijkheid. Zijn laatste grote reis bracht hem in 1520-1521 naar de Lage Landen. Samen met echtgenote Agnes en dienstmeid Susanna verliet de kunstenaar in juli 1520 zijn geboortestad Neurenberg. Het gezelschap trok richting Antwerpen en kwam pas een goed jaar later terug.
