Hardcover. Condition: New. First Edition, First Printing. Phaidon, 2024. Hardcover. Forst Edition, First Printing. 13 × 10 inches. 192 pages with 200 illustrations offering a never-before-seen look at the striking thematic parallels between KAWS and Andy Warhol, two of the most iconic artists of our time. Foreword by Patrick Moore, with an interview by Laurie Simmons and essays by Thomas Crow and Marianne Dobner. SIGNED by KAWS and dated 24' along the fore edge of the first blank page. BOOK CONDITION: Fine; a solid, tight, clean copy with a "Signed Copy" adhesive to the outer plastic shrinkwrap. From the publisher: "As celebrated artists that draw from popular culture, KAWS and Andy Warhol are known for creating art that is approachable beyond the confines of the traditional art world. While at first glance, both artists' works often appear celebratory and joyful, they share a number of dark common threads beneath the surface: tragedy as spectacle and meditations on death and dying. When these two bold bodies of work are juxtaposed, that connection is made explicit and powerful. This book highlights the artistic intersection of KAWS and Warhol, featuring their takes on death and disaster, advertising, nostalgia, abstraction, skulls, and self-portraiture. Accompanying a major exhibition at The Andy Warhol Museum that will travel internationally, it presents some of the most standout and analogous works from two of the most popular artists of all time.". Signed.

Signed in black ink on across the front pastedown and endpaper by KAWS, Terry Richardson, Tobin Yelland, Chris Johanson, Cheryl Dunn, Christian Strike, Aaron Rose, Ivory Serra and three other contributors. Scarce thus. In the 1990s, a loose-knit group of American artists and creators, many just out of their teens, began their careers influenced by the popular underground youth subcultures of the day, such as skateboarding, graffiti, street fashion, and independent music. Artists like Shepard Fairey, Mark Gonzales, Spike Jonze, Margaret Kilgallen, Mike Mills, Barry McGee, Phil Frost, Chris Johanson, Harmony Korine, and Ed Templeton began to create art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Many had no formal training and almost no conception of the inner workings of the art world. They learned their crafts through practice, trial and error, and good old-fashioned innovation. Not since the Beat Generation have we seen a group of creative individuals with such a unified aesthetic sense and varied cultural facets. The world of art has been greatly affected by their accomplishments as have the worlds of fashion, music, literature, film, and, ironically, athletics. Beautiful Losers is a retrospective celebration of this spirit, with hundreds of artworks by over two dozen artists, from precursors like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Larry Clark, to more recent adherents Ryan McGinniss, KAWS, and Geoff McFetridge. Work in all conceivable mediums is included, plus reproductions of reams of ephemera. The accompanying essays are contributed by half a dozen writers who have championed these beautiful losers from the start. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.

Kein Einband. Condition: Sehr gut. Dust Jacket Condition: Sehr gut. KAWS - NO REPLY  - 2015 ** Screen print in colors on wove paper   ** Signed and dated by KAWS in pencil along lower edge right.  ** Numbered in pencil lower left.  * This vibrant screenprint from the No Reply portfolio exemplifies KAWS unmistakable visual language, in which elements of pop culture, graphic design, and contemporary art converge. The composition presents a close-up fragment of one of his iconic cartoon-inspired characters, rendered in bold, saturated color fields and smooth, flowing contours. The characteristic X motif replacing the eyes introduces a sense of emotional ambiguity?at once playful and melancholic?while the cropped perspective intensifies the visual impact and abstraction of the figure. * The No Reply portfolio, created in 2015, comprises a set of ten vibrant screenprints, executed on Saunders Waterford paper and produced in a limited edition of 100 sets.  Published by Pace Editions, New York.  * The work demonstrates KAWS precise control of color layering and graphic clarity. The clean lines and flat planes of color create a polished, almost digital aesthetic, while retaining the tactile qualities of traditional printmaking. * The work is professionally framed in our own frame-shop, in a custom-made white wooden frame with Plexiglas® Optical HC, offering UV protection, scratch resistance, and minimal reflection. Sheet size : 88.3 x 58.4 cm. Size framed approx. 95 x 65 cm. ** KAWS, born Brian Donnelly in 1974, is one of the most influential contemporary artists bridging fine art and popular culture. Emerging from graffiti and street art in the 1990s, he developed a globally recognized body of work that reinterprets familiar cartoon imagery into emotionally charged, highly collectible artworks. His works are held in major international collections and have redefined the boundaries between commercial and fine art. # Authenticity and provenance guaranteed. # Delivered with a certificate of authenticity. # Worldwide shipping, tax-friendly to the USA and EU countries. # Custom handmade framing available on request.
