[From Preface] This book has been written with the syllabuses for Electricity and, Magnetism the Ministry of Transport Masters and Mates examinations in mind and, for these, the subject matter will be found to be adequate. In the more advanced work only the general principles have been brought out. These are generally simple although the circuitry necessary to put them into practice is often extremely complicated and no attempt is made to discuss this. Many of those now at sea did not require electrical knowledge when taking their examinations.
