Hardcover. Condition: Good+ condition. Early edition. 256 pages, including an index to song titles/subjects. Illustrated with a frontisportrait of a dancing couple. Original full leather binding with gilt-lettered and decorated spine is heavily worn, with chipping to top and bottom of spine, and scuffing, wear, and minor warping. Minor soiling to numerous pages. Stereotype edition; no author/compiler or date of publication stated; circa 1840-49. Early printing. Size: 32mo - over 4" - 5" tall. Book.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good-. Stereotype Edition. Small, full leather volume listed as the Stereotype Edition, though both earlier and later editions seem to say this as well. This copy, published by the author in 1836, is rather hard to find with WorldCat locating only 14 copies in libraries. The songs have words only with no musical inscription. Research on the listed singers is somewhat difficult because only last names are given, but many of them can be found, a group of mostly forgotten entertainers. These songs would seem to be what popular music consisted of in the early republic, in urban, English-speaking society. This copy is in quite attractive condition with some edge and corner wear. Corners are rounded, but boards are not showing. There is minor loss at spine ends. Binding is secure with no tears or parting and book is square. Some writing in pencil on front pastedown. Overall the book is about VG-, a solid copy of a book that is hard to find in any condition. ; 32mo 4" - 5" tall; 256 pages.
