Condition: VG-. 1st ed. xvi+214, Churchill list verso half-title; internally clean, tight & unmarked bar extensive but mostly light browning to outer sides of endpapers.Cover are green cloth- covered boards clean with bright gilt lettering to fr. but some scattered patches of pigment loss, edges unworn but occ. strands of cloth as cloth pasted direct onto underlying semi-limp boards, despite faults a VG rating is I feel justified given age and nature of binding. Apparently very scarce. Kerbert's account (dated 1876) extends from p.1- p.40; remainder of work is comprised of 'Opinions of the Press upon Dr. Churchill's Discoveries' drawn fromnumerous British and continental medical journals and newspapers. Churchill was feeling very grieved at the lack of recognition he had received from the medical establishment since 1855 when he had 'discovered' that earlier stages of 'consumption' (tuberculosis) could be cured by administering easily oxygenated hypophosphites, claiming that despite the statistical evidence of its success it had been ignored. He had now 'discovered' a similar cure by inhalents for bronchitis, asthma, etc., but was not going to tell anyone precisely what they contained until his earlier discovery had been acknowledged and accepted, striking a generally injured martyr pose. Apaprently extremely scarce.
