Kerr Eby (frontispiece after John Sartain) (illustrator). gilt lettering and rules to spine and front board. From the American Writers Series, edited by Harry Hayden Clark. Includes frontispiece portrait of Prescott, captioned: "Pen drawing by Kerr Eby, after a mezzotint by John Sartain." Book is very good minus: sound binding, clean text, and generally solid copy with moderate rubbing and handling wear to cloth, light fading to spine, and a few pale surface marks to boards. No dust jacket. Of special interest, the front blank endpaper bears the ownership signature of Yvor Winters. This is described as an ownership signature / association copy, not as an author-signed copy. Pages lightly toned with age, but overall clean and presentable. A solid mid-century academic/literary edition with literary association to the poet, critic, and Stanford professor Yvor Winters.
