Book
Paperback. 185p., text in Japanese, very good trade paperback in wraps. A somewhat polemic argument against the 1988 AIDS Prevention Law, tracing how it came to be passed and focusing on the objections of many hemophiliacs. The epigraph states that the book sets out to document the "mad rush" that drove the Department of Health to implement this law and imagines that history will judge it harshly. The book begins by tracing the cover-up of AIDS cases in Japan (esp. those who had contracted iatrogenic AIDS) in the early stages, and critiques the treatment of HIV+ hemophiliacs as perpetrators (rather than victims). It argues that the policies ostensibly aimed at helping such patients actually were harmful and strongly assails the duplicity of the medical establishment.
