Charles Evans Kilbourne Jr., was the first American to earn the United States' three highest military decorations. He was the recepient of the Medal of Honor for his actions during the PhilippineAmerican War and served as a general officer during the First World War. Following World War I, he served as the Superintendent of the famed Virginia Military Institute, succeeding General John A. Lejeune, and had a post-military career as a distinguished writer.
