Solomon Mussallem (1881-1963) was born in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley and moved to Canada in 1897, not speaking a word of English. After a variety of stops, incl…uding a successful fur-trading expedition in Northern Ontario, he and his growing family settled in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. He started the Haney Garage in 1919, became a Ford dealer in 1924, and in 1930 became a GM dealer for the twenty-five years. He served on Maple Ridge council for 23 years, 21 of those as Mayor. His son George went on to serve as the local MLA for four terms.
