Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the abundance of zooplankton in Hawaiian waters and the factors that may influence their populations. The author, a respected fishery research biologist, conducted extensive sampling and analysis to gather data on zooplankton volume and composition. The book examines… the influence of environmental factors such as temperature, salinity, and currents on zooplankton populations, and discusses the potential impact of these findings on the local skipjack tuna fishery. The author's research provides valuable insights into the complex interplay between zooplankton and their environment, and contributes to our understanding of the marine ecosystem in this important fishing region. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the vertical distribution of zooplankton in the central equatorial Pacific, presenting data collected during a 1952 expedition. The author utilizes Clarke-Bumpus samplers to gather zooplankton samples at varying depths, providing valuable insights into the abundan…ce and composition of these organisms. This study not only contributes to our understanding of zooplankton distribution patterns but also sheds light on the potential food sources available to deep-swimming yellowfin tuna in the region. Through meticulous analysis, the author explores the diurnal variations in zooplankton abundance and examines the differences between zooplankton communities in the North and South Equatorial Currents. The book's findings offer valuable information for researchers studying marine ecosystems, particularly those interested in the intricate relationships between zooplankton and commercially important fish species like the yellowfin tuna. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Includes List of Other Books by Thomas C. Renner; Authors' Dedications; I…ntroduction; Epilogue: Lure of the Informer; Appendix; Index and About the Authors. "A courageous double expose of life in the Mafia and life in the Witness Protection Program. I was especially intrigued by mobster-turned-informer Joe Cantalupo's glimpse into the secret world of the late Mafia don, Joseph Columbo. Another triumph for veteran Mafia observer Thomas Renner." - John H. Davis, author. "With the publication of Body Mike, Tom Renner has produced another valuable contribution to the popular understanding of organized criminal activity, thus demonstrating once again why he is rightfully acknowledged to be the dean of investigative reporter/Mob biographers. Body Mike provides the reader with critical insights into the Cosa Nostra turbulence of the seventies and, as in Nick Pileggi's Wiseguy, artfully explains the fascinating phenomenon of how Mob associates can at the same time have a dozen money-making scams operatng and yet walk around penniless." - Ronald Goldstock, Director New York State Orgainized Crime Task Force. "A piercing look inside the greedy, grubby, vain and violent mind of the Mob. It's a world where no man can be trusted to keep his word, not even the Feds. A gripping primer for anyone who wants to know what the Mafia is really like." - Jim Polk, NBC News, National Investigative Correspondent. "Tome Renner has once again probed La Cosa Nostra and exposed its Machiavellian inner workings. Body Mike will become a classic text in the dymanmics of organized crime. Renner has once again proven why he is the capo de tutti capi of investigative reporters." - Frederick T. Martens, Executive Director Pennsylvania Crime Commission. "Body Mike offers a chilling look into the frightening reality of organized crime through the eyes of someone who has lived through it. Joseph Cantalupo proved to be an invaluable asset in our effort to run the Peerless Importer organization out of Arizona, subsequently blocking its spread throughout the West." - Robert Corbin, Arizona Attorney General. "Joseph Cantalupo was like a son to crime leader Joseph Colombo. He became personal notary to "chairman of the board" Carlo Gambino. He did business in partnership with Genovese crime-family boss Frank "Funzi" Tieri. Cantalupo was a young guy on his way up, a hustler confidant of top value to the Mafia - and to the FBI. Body Mike presents the startling, real-life mob revelations of Joseph Cantalupo, the most effective "wiseguy" informant in years, written in collaboration with Thomas C. Renner, best-selling coauthor of Vincent Teresa's My Life in the Mafia and Antoinette Giancanna's Mafia Princess. When the assassination of Joseph Colombo left a frightening power vacuum, Cantalupo succumbed to FBI pressure and agreed to serve as an undercover agent and state's witness against Mafia kingpins. For six years he wore a body mike in compromising situations and recorded incriminating conversations in secret late-night drives in his bugged Lincoln. He was an essential player in New York crime-buster Rudolph Giuliani's campaign to break the control of the Mafia, testifying in the Colombo family racketeering and the Commission trials, which put Mafia bosses in jail. In an unsparing expose, Joe Cantalupo takes you deep into real life and death - in the world of organized crime. Cantalupo saw it all and tells all: the gang rubouts, real estate scams, loansharking, heists, Mafia weddings and funerals. A marked man, he writes about the unsettling, often terrifying world of the informer, about living under the Witness Protection Program after his testimony and about his frustrated attempts to lead a normal life undercover." - excerpt from the inner front jacket flap. King, William Douglas (jacket photograph); Aquan, Richard L. (jacket design); Vandeventer, J. (book design) (illustrator).

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the standing crop of zooplankton, essential fish food, in the waters around the Hawaiian Islands during the period of the 1950s through 1952. The author, an oceanographer, takes into account the vertical and diurnal variation in zooplankton abundance and correlat…es the findings with the hydrographic conditions of the region. They find that the greatest amount of zooplankton occurred at the 50-meter level in both the day and the night collections. The author also finds a highly significant positive correlation between zooplankton abundance and inorganic phosphate concentrations in the water, suggesting that this may be a useful indicator of zooplankton abundance in the area. This book is an important historical record of the zooplankton abundance around the Hawaiian Islands and provides valuable insights into the relationship between hydrographic conditions and zooplankton populations. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Brown bo…ards lightly rubbed with a few scuffs; patch of white discoloration at front board's top center. Ink ownership inscription at front pastedown's top left; interior pages are otherwise clean. Preface (page 1) by Sacred Harp Publishing Company, Inc.; "Music" essay (page 3), "Introduction and History of The Original Sacred Harp" by Sacred Harp Publishing Company, Inc. on pages 5-11, pages 12-25 feature "Rudiments of Music" essay by Paine Denson divided into eight very brief chapters and glossary; musical scores and lyrics on pages 26-573; unpaged leaves at rear feature "Index of First Lines" and "Index Original Sacred Harp." Fa-so-la or shape-note singing, a method of vocal instruction for choruses unaccompanied by instrumentation, arose from the Protestant Singing School movement during the early 1800s in New England but only became popular in the rural churches of Southern Appalachia where the tradition continues today in northern counties of Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Although not the earliest among the hundred or so shape-note tune books published since the mid-19th century, THE SACRED HARP, compiled by Benjamin Franklin White (1800-1879) and Elisha J. King (ca. 1821-1844) and first published in 1844, is undoubtedly the most influential hymnal in the movement. As preferences of shape note choral groups evolved and diverged during the late 1800s and early 1900s, White's and King's original compilation was amended and altered with some frequency including the derivative ORIGINAL SACRED HARP published in Atlanta, Georgia in August 1911 by reviser Joseph S. James and his music editor Seaborn McDaniel Denson. In turn, the James hymnal led to the first Denson Revision collaborated upon by Thomas Jackson Denson and Paine Denson which was issued in 1936 with, per OCLC, four successive editions for 1960, 1967, 1971, and 1997.
