Außerdem kann das Med…ikament bei systemischer Anwendung in der Leber metabolisiert werden. Dadurch kommt es zu einem Wirkstoffverlust. Aceclofenac ist ein nichtsteroidales Antirheumatikum, das ein Phenylessigsäurederivat mit wirksamen entzündungshemmenden und schmerzstillenden Eigenschaften ist. Es ist ein selektiver COX-2-Hemmer, der hauptsächlich zur Linderung von Schmerzen und Entzündungen bei Osteoarthritis, rheumatoider Arthritis und Spondylitis ankylosans eingesetzt wird. Für Aceclofenac wurde die transdermale Verabreichung gewählt, um den First-Pass-Metabolismus in der Leber zu vermeiden, die Magen-Darm-Reizung aufgrund der sauren Natur des Arzneimittels zu überwinden und das Arzneimittel durch die transdermale Verabreichung an der Krankheitsstelle zu lokalisieren.
