Softcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: N/A. First edition, first printing. 144pp, with some black and white illustrations. Laminated, illustrated stiff card covers. 8vo. Some very gentle edge wear to card covers else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. Invented between the Victorian manias for canals and railways, five floating bridges were built at Dartmouth, Torpoint, Southampton, Saltash and Portsmouth - where land bridges couldn't be built. Devonian James Meadows Rendel was their reluctant inventor.
