His pose is what's different: He stares directly and invitingly at the viewer, his legs spread wide open, as if asking, "Well, what are you waiting for?". The Tom Hintnaus ad shows the latter's eyes closed, even seemingly asleep while sunbathing. Almost all of the subsequent CK ads do show the model staring at the viewer, but not in the way West - who sought a career as an actor - does.
