Freud's topics and descriptions are taken to constitute a new rhetoric or treatise on tropes - versions of the mind which are themselves new figures for classifying and describing the structure and movement of texts, according to what Nicolas Abraham and others here call an "anasemic" transcription of the very concept of figure under the influence of the "radical anasemic change that psychoanalysis has introduced into language" (Abraham, "The Shell and the Kernel").
