Comprising of three major sections, this book is co-authored by three of the most respected authorities…in their field. Section 1 was written by Ron Graham who is well known in the Colt collecting fraternity as the leading authority on the pre-war commercial Single Actions. His knowledge and expertise in this field is recognized throughout the world. His detailed and seemingly miniscule observations of the various markings and changes which transpired throughout this production period are simply remarkable. John Kopec authored the center section on the Colt U.S. inspected Single Action revolvers. His expertise in this seemingly narrow area of Colt collecting is well known and respected throughout the Colt collecting world. This midsection of "A Study" delves deeply into the variants of the U.S. Cavalry revolvers and also encompasses the Militia & Artillery revolvers. The section is well illustrated. The late C. Kenneth Moore authored the third portion of this book. Mr. Moore was meticulous in his approach, paying attention to the finest details. A massive search of the National Archives, Old Military Records, including a "hands-on" study of the Colt Archives records, together with a thorough research on the records located at the Connecticut State Library has resulted in this scholarly contribution. The detailed information available in these chapters will provide today's student of the U.S. Colt Single Action a reliable means to further research his own prized revolver. The book also features a complete detailed index. A wonderful book for the collector and historian of Colt Single Action Army Revolver. Scarce. The Book is in fine condition with only light use.

The collecting of those military issued Colt revolvers which were used by the U.S. Cavalry duing the Indian Wars, and t…heir counterparts the "Artillery" revolvers which had been issued to the troopers of the Spanish American War, have today become one of the "hottest" areas of Colt collecting. Those Cavalry revolvers which may have some remote connections to the U.S. Seventh Cavalry have intensified in popularity and their values skyrocketed. Today's collector is now able to tap into several outstanding resources on which to establish the necessary information required to successfully pursue his dream of owning just one "Custer Colt." This book has through the years become one of the best resources available for the student collector on which to build his collection. Many provocative areas are covered, including; "The Ainsworth Cavalry Revolvers"; "The 1875 Ordnance Sub-Inspected Models"; "The Colt Artillery Revolvers"; "The New York Militia Revolvers"; "Condemned, Overrun, and Buy-back Revolvers", but by far one of the most relevant chapters for today's collector is "The Fakes Facsimilies & Frauds." Eighteen chapters alone delve into finite detail on these "U.S." inspected Colts. Along with the above, we have been the most impressed with the fourteen chapters which were written by the outstanding military historian, the late Dr. H. Sterling Fenn. These chapters deal in detail with the "Custer" or Seventh Cavalry issued revolvers. Many known "Custer" associated revolvers are illustrated and specific serial numbers provided.
