Er promovierte 1894 an der Deutschen Medizinischen Fakultät in Prag, und verbrachte anschließend 6 Jahre als Assistent des Dermatologen Moritz Kaposi in Wien. Später trat er die Nachfolge von Philipp Josef Pick als Professor der Dermatologie der Deutschen Universität Prag an, 1923 wurde er dort zum Rektor ernannt. Unter seinen zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen sticht sein "Lehrbuch der Hautkrankheiten" hervor, weiters 3 Veröffentlichungen zu Lupus Pernio. 1904 gelang ihm die erste Beschreibung von Knochenzysten bei Sarcoidose.
