[light shelfwear only to book; the jacket has some wear at edges and extremities and a small ragged tear (with a little paper loss) at the top front hinge]. (line drawings) INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author at the top of the dedication page, with an additional pencil note at the bottom of the page stating that the inscribee had re-gifted the book because "he has another copy." The humorous, episodic adventures of a Ukranian immigrant, Willig, who has followed his brother Abel, "an incredible and uninhibited mixture of Danny Kaye, Harpo Marx and Mischa Auer," to America. Condition: Fine. The German-American duo of Gustav Cramer and Julius Gross spent several decades photographing the wealthy families on St. Louis's south side in the late nineteenth century, with Gross succeeding Cramer at their 1001 S. Broadway location. Offered here are three particularly fine examples of their work, including a striking portrait of a young woman named Emma Gerhardt, an older woman in religious habit, and a young woman with braided hair. Cabinet card photographs measuring 5 ½ x 4 inches on larger mounts. Fine condition.
