The name Strombus pavifrons was introduced in 1842, and since then the name appeared only twice in the literature. The introduction of the name S. pavifrons was accidental, and constitutes an incorrect subsequent spelling of Strombus pacificus Swainson, 1821, which in its turn is a subjective junior synonym of Lambis vomer Rödin…g, 1798, currently known as Euprotomus vomer (Röding, 1798). The name S. pavifrons is unavailable. Some notes on specimens and localities mentioned in early literature are added. 8 pp., 1 plate, 4.

The third edition of "La Conchyliologie, ou Histoire naturelle ", edited by J. & G. De Favanne de Montcervelle (1780) has a total of 64 illustrations depicting specimens identifiable as Stromboidea. In a recent reprint, delivered by Carpita et al. (2009) some of these were identified, but many remained unidentified by Willmann &… Willmann in Carpita et al. Distorsio perdistorta Fulton, 1938 is reported from Angola for the first time. Distorsio decipiens (Reeve, 1844) is reported from the Caribbean, but this record is most probably an artifact.
