Bernhard Kuessner (1852-1892) "Den ersten Unterricht erhielt Küssner in seinem Heimatort, 1860 bezog er das Collegium Fridericianum in Königsberg. 1869 bestand er die Reifeprüfung und begann das Studium der Medizin an d…er Universität Königsberg. 1874 promovierte er hier mit der Dissertation "Zur Lehre von den Vorstufen des Harnstoffs" zum Dr. med. Danach bekleidete Küssner mehrere Assistenzarztstellen, so an der medizinischen Klinik der Universität Königsberg und der psychiatrischen Klinik der Charité. 1877 wurde er Assistent an der medizinischen Poliklinik der Universität Halle. Hier habilitierte er sich 1878 mit einer Arbeit über die physiologischen und therapeutischen Wirkungen des Thymols. 1884 erhielt Küssner den Titel eines außerordentlicher Professors. Neben seiner ausgedehnten privatärztlichen Praxis widmete sich Küssner weiterhin pharmakologischen Forschungen. Gemeinsam mit Richard Pott verfasste er ein Lehrbuch der Infektionskrankheiten (1882). 1891 wurde ihm die Stelle des dirigierenden Arztes der städtischen Krankenanstalt Magdeburg angetragen. Küssner trat die Stelle an erkrankte jedoch vor der dauerhaften Übersiedlung nach Magdeburg. Bemerkung: Küssner gab im Lebenslauf seiner Dissertation den Vater nicht an, widmete die Arbeit aber seinem Onkel, einem Arzt in Bartenstein (Ostpreußen).
