Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. (Text dt., engl.) 160 pp. Deutsch, Englisch.

Soft cover. Condition: New. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Populations in both eastern and western cultures have been mining, trading, and carving garnets for millennia. Named for its likeness to the flesh and seeds of the pomegranate (Latin granatus), garnet is most commonly thought of as a red gemstone, but it actually occurs in all…colors of the spectrum. In fact, garnet is a complex group of fifteen separate mineral species, which are sometimes hard to differentiate visually and more often than not occur together in the same specimen. Six of these species - almandine, andradite, grossular, pyrope, spessartine, and uvarovite - are regularly featured in mineral cabinets and jewelry. Garnets are also valued for much more than their aesthetics: they are important rock-forming minerals enhancing our understanding of geologic events; they are commercially valuable as abrasives; they are part of an 'indicator' mineral suite used by geologists to locate diamond deposits; and they are great crystallographic examples with their textbook-perfect dodecahedral shapes. Yet even with this abundance, truly fine garnet specimens and large gemstones are surprisingly difficult to find. Contributions by: Lothar Ackermann, Marco Amabili, Marc B. Hardback. Condition: New. Wolfgang Laib (born 1950 in Germany) is considered to be one of the most important artists of today. His work is characterized by a profound relationship with nature and a declared belief in simplicity. Eastern philosophies from India have also shaped his life and his artistic practice since the 1970s.…The artist continues today to concentrate on just a few cyclical groups of work.Ever since his journeys to India as a young man, Wolfgang Laib has been inspired by the idea of seeing humans as part of a larger whole. He also follows this way of life in his art: he tracks down the universal, the eternal, and works with natural materials such as pollen, rice, milk or bees wax.At the Bündner Kunstmuseum, he presents an extensive, room-sized installation made up of thousands of tiny rice mountains. An important foodstuff, rice symbolizes vitality and is fundamental for our earthly existence. The process of creating this work of art is revealed in the book and is related to a conversation between Wolfgang Laib and the internationally renowned Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. With this book, Wolfgang Laib reveals the spiritual dimension of art and leads us directly to the sources of his poetics.

Condition: Como nuevo. Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Laib's tranquil installations celebrate simplicity and transience. The oeuvre of the German installation artist Wolfgang Laib (born 1950) expresses a deep-seated belief in formal and conceptual simplicity, as informed by his formative life experiences in India and the teachings of the ancien…t Taoist philosopher Lao Tzu. Laib creates sculptures that connect the past and present, working with perishable organic materials (pollen, milk, wood and rice) as well as durable ones (granite, marble and brass). His most famous works consist of mounds of pollen splayed on museum and gallery floors. This catalogue traces the creation of Laib's recent room-size installation, Crossing the River, for the Buendner Kunstmuseum. Comprising thousands of rice mountains that in part symbolise vitality and abundance, this potent work is discussed at length in the book - particularly in a conversation between Laib and the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. Laib and Zumthor unravel both the technical and spiritual underpinnings of the piece. SELLING POINTS: . Wolfgang Laib is a German artist known for his use of simple organic materials such as pollen, milk, beeswax and rice, which he arranges into meditative installations . Hardcover, landscape-format book documents his most recent room-size installation made of thousands of rice mountains 40 illustrations Cyclical groups of works illustrate a deep relationship with nature Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
