Trotz der Intention, Naturschutz mit anthropogener indirekter Nutzung zu vereinbaren, gibt es weltweit Akzeptanzprobleme in der lokalen Bevölkerung, die mit der Errichtung der Schutzgebiete nach dem Top-down-Prinzip und den von 'außen' auferlegten Schutzvorschriften und Nutzungsverzichten entstehen. Außerschulische Umweltbildung in Nationalparkzentren leistet ihren Beitrag zur Erhöhung der Akzeptanz in der lokalen Bevölkerung und damit zu effizientem Naturschutz.Die vorliegende Arbeit prüft exemplarisch die Übertragbarkeit von Konzepten der außerschulischen Umweltbildung (Zielgruppe: Schüler) von einem Nationalpark, der vor 36 Jahren gegründet wurde und einen hohen Organisationsgrad aufweist (Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald / Deutschland) auf einen Nationalpark, der vor 4 Jahren gegründet wurde und sich noch in der Anfangsphase seiner Entwicklung befindet (Nationalpark Montanhas do Tumucumaque / Brasilien). Dazu wurden an den Schulen der Anliegergemeinden in beiden Untersuchungsgebieten vergleichende Befragungen durchgeführt, die der Erfassung der Einstellungen zum und des Wissensstandes über die Schutzgebiete dienten. Ferner wurden Informationen über die Nutzung bereits bestehender bzw. zukünftiger Umweltbildungseinrichtungen gewonnen. Befragungsinstrumente waren standardisierte Fragebögen (Schüler) und Leitfadeninterviews (Lehrer). Die Fragebögen wurden mit den Methoden der deskriptiven Statistik, die Leitfadeninterviews mit Hilfe der Qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse ausgewertet und analysiert.
