Small stamp on p.7. ?Das Verdienst dieses Buches liegt vor allem darin, daß sich einmal jemand die Mühe gemacht hat, die Texte der antiken Metrik-theoretiker genau zu lesen und eine Bestandsaufnahme der einzelnen… zu Lehren zu machen. Dabei wird in vielen Details die Eigenart des Diomedes im Vergleich mit anderen Werken deutlich, wenn auch eine grundsätzlich neue Forschungsposition nicht erreicht wird. Die Betrachtungsweise ist im übrigen weitgehend ahistorisch. (?) Dies ist um so mehr zu bedauern, als die Spätantike als eigenständige Epoche, die ihre Blütezeit gerade im 4. Jh. hatte, in den vergangenen Jahren immer deutlicher Konturen in der Forschung gewinnt und von daher die Frage interessant wäre, ob sich auch in diesem Teilbereich des Bildungssystems Eigenheiten finden, die man als spätantik bezeichnen könnte. (?) Jedenfalls gibt es hier noch vielfältige Aufgaben für künftige Forschung. Die Aufarbeitung der Quellentexte durch C. wird dabei hilfreich sein.? (JÜRGEN LEONHARDT in Gnomon, 1997, pp.72-73).
