Je retarderai alors l'impression de la liste des souscripteurs. Le but des 60 lingots n'est pas difficile à deviner. Veuillez recevoir mes amicaux et bien sincères sentiments. Le Gal Cte Corbineau. Le 9 Mai. A Monsieur le baron Fain [ habitant du de la Trémoille ?]". Aide de camp de Napoléon, Jean-Baptiste Juvénal Corbineau (1776-1848) est notamment fameux pour avoir découvert un gué sur la Bérézina, permettant à d'Eblé d'y bâtir un pont. Sa lettre a été judicieusement reliée au début du livre IX consacré à la Berezina. Le premier ouvrage du colonel Labaume fut rédigé par ce témoin oculaire en utilisant comme encre de la poudre à canon délavée dans de la neige fondue. "Ces souvenirs doivent sans doute à leur hostilité à l'égard de Napoléon leur énorme succès sous les Restauration" (Tulard 417). Le second ouvrage, manifestement en édition originale "a été également attribué à Th. Delbare, mais il semble bien de Bourgeois. On y retrouve le même style et le point de vue - modeste - du soldat sur la chute de l'Empire" (Tulard, 104). L'exemplaire de la BNF (notice FRBNF30146319) de l'édition originale compte 93 pp. précédée de 2 ff. de faux-titre et de titre et son texte commence en page 1, notre édition en compte 94 et le texte commence en page 3 précédé d'un feuillet de titre, l'une et l'autre ne contenant pas les plans ajoutés dans les éditions postérieures. Bon état pour cet exemplaire dans lequel un portrait de Ney, vainqueur de la Moskowa a été rajouté en frontispice (la seconde pièce de titre a été remplacée par un fleuron, ex-libris ms. en garde). With plans of the Battles of Maskwa and Marlo-Jaroslavitz. Second English edition. The French invasion of Russia of 1812 was a turning point in the Napoleonic Wars. The campaign reduced the French and allied invasion forces to a tiny fraction of their initial strength. Eugene Labaume 1783 1849 was a geographical engineer and historian. The Campaign of Paris in 1814 is about the battle of Paris, which was fought during the Napoleonic Wars. The French defeat led directly to the abdication of Napoleon I. With two fold-out plates. First English edition. Bound in diced calf leather with gilt lettering and decoration. There is significant wear to the extremities, including bumping and rubbing with loss to the leather. The boards are attached by the cords only and may detach in the post, despite due care given. The binding of the text block is tight and firm. Internally the pages are bright with intermittent mild spotting and offsetting from the plates. There is a small closed tear to three of the plates measuring no more than 2cm. Overall the condition is very good internally but only fair externally. Fair. None (illustrator). book.
