Envoyé de nouveau à la Martinique, il s'associa avec un marchand juif et recommença ses spéculations. Plusieurs de ses vaisseaux furent saisis par les Anglais, alors en guerre avec la France. Il se trouva dans l'impossibilité de rembourser ses emprunts, qu'il avait contracté avec la société Jean Lioncy de Marseille, et déposa son bilan. Le père La Valette fut condamné par le Parlement de Paris pour banqueroute frauduleuse. L'immense scandale que produisit cette affaire précipita la dissolution de l'ordre des Jésuites qui, déclaré solidaire par le tribunal, refusa de payer.RARE EDITION. The book supports the demand of Lioncy firm that the Jesuits reimburse one and a half milion pounds. This refers to the trade actions of Father La Vallette on the island of Martinique. In 1753, without the consent of his superiors, he founded a trading company which went bankrupt after its ships were seized by the English. This in turn led to the bankrupcy of the Marseille trading company Lioncy Frères et Gouffre.
