Short note on blue paper (9 x 8.5cm) laid in, likely in the hand of Bertha Rose, concerning Farjeon's efforts for the Farjeon Foundation in Dunedin, New Zealand. Else, clean and tidy. In the original illustrated dust jacket, likely by Lynton Lamb (signed "L. L.": sunned, with only a patch of the original pink to rear panel, soiling to rear panel, short closed tear to top edge of front panel. Very good/ good+ A pleasing presentation copy of the 1960 edition of Eleanor Farjeon's childhood memoir, affectionately inscribed in the year of publication, "To dear Bertha and Charles Rose, with love from Little Ellie/ and old Eleanor Farjeon/ June 9th 1960," featuring a brief note, likely by Bertha Rose, laid in commenting on Farjeon's efforts for the Farjeon Foundation in Dunedin, New Zealand, which is mentioned in the new Postscript. Little is known about Farjeon's friends, Bertha Rose (formerly Hagart) and her husband Charles. It seems likely that Bertha Rose was the Royal Academy of Music (RAM)-trained, South African pianist, who was active professionally both in South Africa and Britain in the 1950s. If this is the case, it also seems probable that the two women met through Farjeon's elder brother Harry, who taught at RAM for 45 years. Farjeon's childhood memoir was first published by Gollancz in 1935. …
