Red leather label on spine with gilt lettering. Ink inscription of "Abel & Bailey" on front board and front free endpaper. Lambert prepared this treatise in an effort to show how the law of dower had been adapted and applied in the United States in the early years of the republic. The emphasis is on the rights of women to control property inherited from a spouse. Comprising a Digest of the American Decisions, and the Provisions of the Revised Statutes of the State of New York. Some scuffing to leather with a small mark to the top outer corner of each board. Also a few tiny ink spots on front board. Portions of the text block have light tanning from age. Still a very good copy overall.
