Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Don Lambo (illustrator). 1st Edition. Getting to Know The South Pacific was written by Charles R. Joy and illustrated by Don Lambo. The book was published by Coward-McCann, Inc. in 1961 and appears to be a First Edition but is not specifically stated as such. The hard cover book is 6 3/4" by 8 3/4" and has 64+ pages with an Index, a "How to Pronounce Foreign Words in This Books" section, a History section, and both three-color and black-and-white illustrations throughout the book. This copy IS an ex-library copy and is in very good condition but for the library markings and the dust jacket is in good + condition with no library markings. The dust jacket has been price-clipped. The library HAD pasted the dust jacket flaps to the paste down boards. I removed them as best as I could and will put on a nice plasticene protector. It wasn't a perfect job, but it looks 100% better than it did. This copy is NOT the "library bound" edition. Though this is a book from a series intended for older elementary students, the print is not large and the reading is not all that simple. It could well be appreciated by many adults. Thank you!

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Don Lambo (illustrator). 1st Edition. With the Will to Go; by Agnes Danforth Hewes; illustrated by Don Lambo; Longmans, Green and Co., New York, 1960. First edition. Hewes (1874 - 1963) was an American writer of children's literature, three times a runner-up for the annual Newbery Medal. Her early childhood overseas had a huge influence on her life and writing. Hewes wrote her first of many youth books in 1923, several of which dealt with culture clashes and early international trade. From the blurb - Did the Netherlanders, so long the coastal carriers of Europe, dare take ships to the Indies? How best to uncover the closely guarded secret of seaways and trade. Young Pieter, his merchant uncle's right-hand man, persuades his sober, sensible Amsterdam elders to start him off for Lisbon on a jeopardous adventure. This book was written towards the end of the author's writing days, and it is very scarce. This book, 244 pages, is in near-fine condition. The dust jacket is in good condition and is enclosed in a protective mylar wrap. There are the remnants of a price sticker on the top right-hand corner of the dust jacket and in the bottom left-hand corner there is a loss of colour due to the removal of another sticker. Otherwise, a nice bright jacket.
