Edition difficile à dater, en effet le dernier chiffre de la date sur le titre du tome 1 a bavé et est illisible (1861, 1862, 1863, 1864 ?) ; le tome 2 quant à lui ne porte pas de date sur le titre et le libellé de l'éditeur a légèrement changé : "Imprimerie et Librairie centrales des Chemins de Fer A. Chaix et Cie". Très bon exemplaire.

Les auteurs sont deux figures pyrénéiste et ascensionniste de Luchon. Toussaint Lézat, géomètre qui signe les cartes, plans et tableaux des excursions, est célèbre pour ces nombreuses ascensions dans la région de Luchon et son plan en relief des montagnes du Luchonnais. Il fonda en 1850 la première compagnie des guides de la Maladeta à Luchon (aujourd'hui Compagnie des guides de Luchon).
