Condition: Hervorragend. Zustand: Hervorragend | Seiten: 258 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Pieces of Life is a collection of stories written by the Landfall Writers Group established in 2015 in the community of Landfall in Wilmington NC. The stories include fiction, non -fiction, memories and family history. Following a brief biographical sketch the author readings are arranged to be read in sequence. We hope you find them to be entertaining and enjoyable. You might even shed a tear and have a few good laughs. What are some others saying about Pieces of Life? Pieces of Life is a nifty book of sketches and stories that will catch your eye and your heart, and you'll say, "Whoa. Writers are among us." The stories are visual and clear and written extremely well. Some will bring a tear-or an out loud laugh. Or both. It's so good to know that people who have or who are pursuing many walks of life see that the making of literature can bring us all closer. The writers in Pieces of life highlight the kinds of relationships and feelings and griefs and joys that make us human, together on the same journey, after all. I hope many other communities follow the example set forth between these covers, and form such a group as the Landfall Writer's Group. Vibrancy prevails! Clyde Edgerton, Ph D, Kenan Professor of Creative Writing University of North Carolina Wilmington, author of The Night Train and Walking Across Egypt. We love stories because we all live our own. When we hear someone else's story, well-told, it can offer light for our own path through life. This book is full of short and delightful tales, told by a group of my neighbors who meet regularly to encourage each other as writers. They can make you laugh, cry, and ponder the wonders of your own adventure, as you take in these snippets of life and thought. Dip in anywhere. I bet you hit on something you'll like. Tom Morris Nationally bestselling author of such books as The Oasis Within, The Golden Palace, and The Stone of Giza. …

Contact seller5-star sellerBy: John MurrayDate:1856(dated)LondonDimensions:15.5 x25 inches (39.5 x 63.5 cm)An uncommon map, published by the Royal Geographical Society in 1856, illustrating the tracks of Columbus during his first voyage of to the New World in which hebecame the first European to set foot in the Americas with his landfall in the Bahamas on October 12, 1492.The map is highly detailed, using the most up-to-date geographic sources for the region available to John Murray and the Royal Geographical Society with a multitude of depth soundings, anchorages, and hazards noted throughout.Columbuss track is delineated in three separate colors depending on the source, with that of Mr. Washington Irving in Blue, Señor Navarrete in Yellow, and the Author of the Landfall in Red. Place names given by Columbus are provided in all-capitalized red letters. The top right portion of the map includes two inset maps; one of The Crooked Isles (proposed Fragrant Isles of Columbus), and the other of Watling Island (San Salvador to Columbus) where first landfall was made. Along the top of the map is a profile view of Long Island (Bahamas) when seen from the southwest side. This map is an altogether impressive cartographic work of one of the most iconic places of discovery in the New World when visited by the most well-known and now controversial figures from the early years of the age of discovery.Condition:Map is in A condition with a rough top margin that comes close to the profile view. Paper is thin but sturdy and the map image and colors are very fine and easy to interpret. Paper can be added to the top margin for easy framing at the request and expense of the buyer.Inventory #125481200 W. 35th Street #425 Chicago, IL 60609 | P: (312) 496 - 3622.…
