Dion Lardner was a British army officer who in late 1909 was seconded to the King's African Rifles under the Colonial Office in the British Empire's newest colony - the Uganda Protectorate. He did not see combat while in Uganda, but he did travel all around the country and was present on the Uganda-Congo border when the border was re-drawn to slightly expand Uganda. Lardner started in Mombasa in the British East Africa Protectorate and took the Uganda Railway. He travelled throughout the Central Africa Lakes region - crossing Victoria Nyanza, before continuing north between Lakes Kioga and Albert Nyanza, and then heading west all the way to Lake Kivu. Because Uganda was undeveloped he walked throughout most of his journey. This book focuses on the natural beauty of the region and includes his experiences as a soldier and hunter. He hunted elephant, buffalo, and hippopotamus. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 289 pages.
