Originally published in June 1938 by Société Française d'Éditions Nelson in Paris, this is the 1950 reprint by Thomas Nelson and Sons Ltd., with offices listed in Edinburgh (Parkside Works), London (3 Henrietta Street WC2 and 312 Flinders Street Melbourne C1), Cape Town (5 Parker's Buildings, Burg Street), Toronto (91-93 Wellington Street West), New York (385 Madison Avenue), and Paris (25 rue Henri Barbusse Ve). No ISBN, as it predates the system (ASIN reference: B001OESPGM). The book measures approximately 16.5cm x 11.5cm, with around 81 pages of simple French narrative text, accompanied by delightful black-and-white illustrations by J. Pinchon depicting alpine scenes, family hikes, mule caravans, glaciers, and chalets. The story follows the Laval family—Mme Laval, her two children (Jean and Marthe), and their guide M. Durand—on an adventurous vacation from Paris to Grenoble and into the French Alps. They encounter wild framboises, mountain streams, and rustic chalets, with themes of family bonding, nature exploration, and mild perils like crossing torrents. This copy is an ex-library edition from Luton High School for Girls (Bedfordshire, UK), adding unique historical provenance.
