Add to basketA4 STUDY BOOKLET RINGBOUND. Condition: A4 Report. Dust Jacket Condition: LIMITED EDITION of Ten Reports. - (illustrator). FIRST PUBLICATION. A wonderful report all about Arthur Conan Doyle's life. - 22nd May 1859 to 7th July 1930 - The report is diverse and hugely interesting. - It begins with a chronology of Arthur Conan Doyle's life through his entire 71 years, from his birth. 1859: Born Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle, third child and elder son of ten siblings, born at 11 Picardy Place, Edinburgh, on 22 May and baptised in the Roman Catholic religion of his parents. - [this chronology consists of 7 pages] until. 1930: 7th July, Death of Arthur Conan Doyle at his home, Windlesham, in Crowborough, East Sussex. - There is a chapter about the man who inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to create the character of Sherlock Holmes. - [Joseph Bell] [1837-1911] - and why. - There is a chapter on 'The Cottingley Fairies', and Arthur Conan Doyle's involvement. - The Cottingley Fairies appear in a series of five photographs taken by Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths, two young cousins who lived in Cottingley, near Bradford in England. In 1917, when the first two photographs were taken, Elsie was 16 years old and Frances was 10. - The pictures came to the attention of writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who used them to illustrate an article on fairies he had been commissioned to write for the Christmas 1920 edition of The Strand Magazine. - Conan Doyle, as a spiritualist, was enthusiastic about the photographs, and interpreted them as clear and visible evidence of psychic phenomena. - There are transcripts of the letters that Arthur Conan Doyle wrote to Elsie Wright, and her father, Arthur Wright in 1920 and the response he received back. - In the letter that Arthur Conan Doyle wrote to Elsie Wright he said that he was just about to leave for Australia. - 1920 to 1930: Arthur Conan Doyle engaged in a world-wide crusade for spiritualism. - During 1920 and 1921, he visited Australia and New Zealand. Early in 1922, he went to America and toured the Eastern states; the following year, he travelled as far as California. - In 1928, he left for South Africa, and in the autumn of that same year, he preached Spiritualism in the Northern countries of Europe. - His promulgation of Spiritualism did not come without a price. - He expended a tremendous amount of physical and emotional energy. Furthermore, it is estimated that the decline in his literary output, because of his devotion to Spiritualism, translated into a loss of approximately £200,000, an amazing amount of money for the time. - Just six days before he died he started a drive for the modification of the Fortune Telling Act; and, on July 1, 1930, he led a petition to Council. - I have a copy of a newspaper article in which he protests against the prosecution of a clairvoyant, who was fined £20 on a charge of fortune telling. - He wrote: Sir, Is it not time that the prosecution, or rather, the persecution of clairvoyants and mediums should cease. etc. There is a short chapter on 'The Fox Sisters' of New York, in 1848 when they claimed they could communicate with a ghost. They received instant celebrity. - In 1888, one of the sisters confessed it was a deception. - One of those who would not accept her confession was none other than Arthur Conan Doyle would you believe??? - Finally, the report closes with a photocopy of Arthur Conan Doyle's hand-written will. - It consists of four hand-written pages and signed by him on the fourth page. I have then typed up the will so you can read what he has written more easily. - There is an image of his tombstone. - It is the final resting place for him and his wife who were laid side by side. - E N D - Our orders are shipped within 1 or 2 business days. Signed by Arthur Conan Doyle.
