Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Quarto of 10 1/4 inches in fair condition. Red cloth with gilt. Faded spine at top edge. Cracked to netting, front and back but still holding the covers, and pages tight. Fairly easy repair. White printed yellow end papers. The dust jacket is good with edge wear and shallow chipping along the top edge. Tanned at the edges and price clipped. In an archival cover. Retold and shortened for modern readers in 1884 by Mary Godolphin. Reduced to less than one fifth of the original, it nevertheless retains all the characters and episodes. With Lawson's drawings, it becomes a perfect version for children, and all who like Lawson's art, and are put off by the length of Bunyan's original. This copy is quite unique due to the association signatures and inscriptions on the half title page and back of the first end paper. There is an address/ownership stamp of Roy Disney, and a handwritten gift inscription to Roy Edward Disney, who was the son of Roy O. Disney, the brother of Walt Disney. Signed from, Hazel and Bill Cottrell, Christmas-1939. "Uncle Bill" was part of the original Walt Disney Animation Studios, and helped write Peter Pan in 1959 and also Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Alice and Wonderland in 1937, as a creation member of Disney Productions. Bill Cottrell was also one of the main designers of Disneyland. There is also a later ownership inscription to Tom and Judith Dillenberg from Victor, 1989. Tom Dillenberg and Judith were art collectors in Santa Fe , New Mexico with an extensive collection of folk art. xi and 120 pages.
