FAIR copy, binding square, upper board detached along with first few leaves, edges and corners a little worn, spine well worn with cloth chipped and lost, title label largely intact, ink name on blank prelim dated 1867, otherwise internally very good.

Condition: Poor. This is an ex-library book and may have the usual library/used-book markings inside.This book has hardback covers. In poor condition, suitable as a reading copy. Re-bound by library. Medium sun faded red cloth 8vo with library stamp on front board and gilt lettering and had written marking on backstrip. Bumped corners and shelf worn. Chipping and several large tears in backstrip, though it remains secure. Hinges secured with black tape. Frontispiece with some transference. A booklet titled, Erasmus. A Lecture by Rev. James Hamilton, has been secured after title page. Pages are secure and clear of markings save for some foxing and age toning. Trimmed. Frontis (a portrait of Erasmus engraved by Philip Audinet [1766-1837] after Hans Holbein) + [4] + 394 pages. 1st thus edition, being an abridgment of Jortin's 2 volume work of the same name, published 1758- 60. Front hinge starting at top of spine, leather title label a bit chipped, 19th c. owner bookplate on front paste-down, else very good overall condition; NOT EX-LIBRARY.

[iv], 394 pp, portrait frontis. Stout library 1/4 blue morocco with gilt lettering to spine, marbled boards, speckled leaf edges. 22 cm x 14 cm. Ex library copy with number to lower section of spine, sticker to front paste down endpaper, occasional ink stamps to text. Spine discoloured, slight warping to boards, contents lightly age browned.
