It appears to have only been published in a soft cover edition. This copy appears to be unique for being the Only Non-Library copy for sale anywhere on the Internet. Making it even mo…re unique, it is signed and inscribed by the editor, the Only signed copy. And the inscription is to the author and historian John Toland who is best known for a biography of Adolf Hitler and a Pulitzer Prize-winning history of World War II-era Japan, The Rising Sun. The inscription reads 'For John Toland, a good friend and counselor. Aloha, Paul Hooper, April 6, 1982.' I own several books that were once owned by John Toland. Off the top page edge of the half-title page the previous owner penciled the words 'inscribed to author John Toland.' That penciling could easily be erased. The book is in very good condition. When I purchased it, it was in the protective plastic covering that you can see in the photos (the diagonal line on the front cover crossing from the middle edge to the bottom edge is on the protective cover not the book, and the light at the top edge of the spine in the second photo is glare off of the plastic protective cover that rises above the top edge of the book's spine, again not on the book itself). For appearances sake it might look better without the protective cover, but I'll leave it to you to decide whether you want it on there or not. The covers are in nice condition. There is a little wear on the top edge of the front cover, and a little scuffing on the spine. There may be a small closed tear on the spine as well, hard to tell whether it's a tear or a scuff, or perhaps just a light fissure. There's one small spot off the top edge of the rear cover. Hard to know whether it would come off or not (I think you'd have to cut the protective cover to get it off). The interior of the book is in exceptional condition. Fair to say that it looks new, unused. The pages are perfectly clean. There aren't any creases or dogeared corners. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of the signed inscription (which is on the title page) and the penciled words on the half-title page which I've referenced, there is no writing to be found on anywhere in the book. You can read the names of the contributing writers on the front cover (first photo). 'The Pacific Community Lecture Series is an amalgam of public lectures and scholarly papers designed to provide Pacific leaders with a forum to express their views on the regionalist movement.'. Inscribed by Author(s).

With the advent of highly industrialised technology during the 20th century conflict has been on a steady increase as there are often dialectical processes involved between those creating technological innovations and those who become unwittingly involved in them. One environmental conflict called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking as it is commonly referred to, is a profitable industrial practice whereby natural gas is extracted from rock layers in the ground. Fracking is an environmental conflict arising from economic and political marginalisation based primarily on class divisions. This will be demonstrated first through describing fracking and how it is an environmental conflict, by explaining how fracking fits into a political and economic framework, and by finally outlining the cultural component, that is how marginalised socio-economic and ethnic groups are affected by the practice of fracking. Political ecology theory will be applied in order to gain an understanding of the complexities of fracking as this theory focuses on the mutual development of both political and ecological change. It is acknowledged that whilst applying a political ecology perspective is an effective anthropological method, it is also necessary to apply other anthropological theories in order to gain a more holistic analysis.

Humanistic theories offer an approach that both embraces and acknowledges the emotional aspects of the individual learning process. This essay argues that the relevance of humanism towards to the school system is significant, particularly when students begin to show signs of emotional behavioural disorders (EBD). Education from a humanistic perspective looks to implement methods to address the underlying causes that motivate students to act in ways that are both unhelpful to themselves and others in their immediate environment. This can be done through a variety of pedagogical strategies, borrowing on the theories of traditional humanists, such as Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow, to more modern approaches such as Non-Violent Communication. An outline of some of the pertinent theories and techniques in the humanist approach will be given, alongside their applicability in a New Zealand school context with students who show signs of EBD. Incorporating a culturally-aware approach will also be demonstrated to hold significant value, with relevance to those of both Maori and European heritage. It is concluded that empathetic educational practices provide students and teachers with opportunities to grow and learn together in a symbiotic environment.
