Paperback. Condition: Fine. 1st. vii, 48 pages, illustrations (some colour); 26 cm. Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston, February 18 to May 21, 2000. Firm binding, clean inside copy. *** A participatory installation by Taiwanese-American artist Lee Mingwei (b. 1964). *** "Lee Mingwei's simple yet elegant installations provide a stage for interpersonal exchange around ordinary human events or activities -- admiring an object, making conversation, or writing a letter to a friend or family member. His past installations such as 'The Dining Project' and 'The Letter-Writing Project' are explored along with a recent project developed while an artist in residence at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum called 'The Living Room.' This installation creates a modern-day version of the salon life the museum's founder used to enliven her collection. In his essay, Lewis Hyde asks us to consider Isabella Gardner's intentions in creating a place that was her home as well as a public space for appreciating art. Lee's new installation reflecting his interest in Gardner's interaction with visitors to her museum at the turn of the century and his installations as exchanges between viewer and artist are explored in an essay by Jennifer Gross." - Publisher. Size: 4to. Collectible.

Hardback. Condition: New. Lee Mingwei's artistic practice is primarily concerned with rituals of giving and receiving. His solo exhibition presented at Gropius Bau in Berlin, showcases his installations and performances from the last three decades: central to the exhibition is an exploration of art's potential to be a transformative gift. In Lee Mingwei's works immaterial gifts such as song, conversation or contemplation are given and received. For many of his projects the starting point is his personal encounters, which are then transformed into installations. Seeing such experiences as moments in which time is gifted, Lee's projects reveal a fascination for the role of the host.Accordingly, in autumn 2019, the artist put out open calls looking for Berlin-based hosts to participate in several of his projects. In The Living Room hosts are invited to exhibit their unique collections and in The Mending Project the menders host conversations with visitors whilst repairing their damaged items of clothing. These processes create a common space where viewers are given the opportunity to enter into and exchange, and where rituals of care and healing begin to unfold.

Hardcover. Condition: New. 88 pages. This book documents an installation at the Peranakan Museum in 2013 by artist Lee Mingwei. It explores issues of archaeology, memory, connoisseurship, and rebirth. Visitors were invited to participate in creating the work and contribute permanently to the museum's collection. The work is inspired by Mingwei's first visit to the museum: upon entering, he recalled his grandparents' home, where light cascading from the skylight, sounds, and aromas coming from different floors, "became a sort of multisensory symphony in my mind".
